Padel Plan secured planning consent for three padel courts at the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester, on one of the most highly protected sites we have worked on. The courts lie within the grounds of a listed building, surrounded by mature trees and an associated historic landscape, and the site also falls within the Cotswolds National Landscape.
With so many layers of protection, heritage was at the heart of the application. Padel Plan prepared a detailed heritage assessment that examined the significance of the listed building, its setting and the landscape around it. This work gave the council a clear understanding of how the courts would relate to their historic surroundings and provided the justification needed to support development in such a sensitive location.
Just as important was the careful planning of the scheme itself. We worked through the siting and layout of the courts so that they would sit comfortably within their setting, making the most of the screening provided by the mature trees and ensuring the development was appropriate to the character of the grounds and the wider National Landscape.
Planning consent was granted, bringing three new padel courts to the university while protecting the historic and landscape qualities that make the site so special.
