Tour Padel's scheme at the University of Greenwich Medway Campus involved two uncovered padel courts on a particularly difficult site. The courts were proposed in a space lying immediately between two listed buildings, within a conservation area, where any new development needed to show real respect for its historic surroundings.
Heritage was the central issue. Padel Plan prepared a detailed heritage assessment that examined the significance of the two listed buildings, their setting, and the character of the wider conservation area. The assessment showed how the courts could be accommodated in this constrained environment without harming the special qualities of the historic buildings or the area around them, giving the council clear and robust evidence on which to base its decision.
With the heritage case firmly established, the application progressed quickly. It was determined within six weeks of submission, and consent was secured within ten weeks of Padel Plan being commissioned to support the application.
This scheme shows that padel can be delivered successfully even in the most sensitive historic settings, and without long delays.
